Gujarat: Two Dalit youths thrashed over this WhatsApp Status

Kutch: In yet another incident of alleged atrocities against Dalits, upper caste men reportedly thrashed two Dalit youths over WhatsApp Status.

According to the report published in Ahmedabad Mirror, this incident took place at Nana Asumbia Village, Mandvi taluka of Kutch. On Friday, police registered a case against the accused.

As per the details of the incident, on Thursday, when Poonam Maheshwari (26) of Nana Asumbia was at his auto garage which is located near Kojachora road, Bhupatsinh Jadeja and Sandip Jadeja approached him and started asking about his Whatsapp status. When Poonam showed his status to them, they threatened and asked him to avoid such status.

When Poonam reacted to their threat, they started beating him.

Pravin Maheshwari tried to intervene. However, he was also beaten by the two accused. During the assault, the accused persons tore Poonam and Pravin’s clothes.

After the incident, frightened Poonam went home. Next day, he lodged a complaint in Mandvi Police Station.

Talking to media, Poonam said that the status which he had written was, “Loonti ja rahi thi manavta bhare bazaar mein, tab kahan the Ram, phel gaya tha jehar vishamta ka sansar mein, kahan the Shyam, koi nahi tha bhagwan, yeh to puttle the mitti ke. Sar uncha kar gaya hamara, who tha hamara Bhim. Jay Bhim”, Ahmedabad Mirror reported.

Police registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and SC/ST Act. However, both the accused are absconding.

It may be mentioned that earlier, in the same area, a Dalit boy was brutally assaulted for using a cellphone.
