Hyderabad: Central government has decided to allow Muslim women to travel for Haj pilgrimage without ‘mahram’ (male guardian) and to exclude them from lottery. However according to Islamic shariah women are not allowed to travel without male guardian. Central government by taking the controversial decision has tried to interfere into shariah.
1200 such applications are said to be received from across the nation, most of which are from Kerala. However no such application has been received from southern states especially from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Special officer Telangana Hajj Committee Prof. S A Shukoor told that no application has been submitted without mahram. Lottery for the 17000 applications received by Telangana Hajj Committee will be conducted somewhere between 8 to 15 January.
