Johannesburg: Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton produced a superior performance as he narrowly edged past Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to emerge as the fastest driver in the opening practice session of this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The three-time world champion, who clocked his best lap in one minute and 31.654 seconds, was just 0.033 seconds faster than Rosberg and eighth-tenths of seconds quicker than third-placed Nico Hulkenberg of Force India.

Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished fourth quickest ahead of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and team-mate Kimi Raikkonen,Sport24 reported.

Earlier, Hamilton and Rosberg were instructed to obey a revised ‘code of engagement’ after their three collisions in five races of the season.
