Handloom dept. extends helping hand to unemployed youth in Leh

Leh (Jammu and Kashmir): The handloom department, established in 1966 in Leh district, imparts training to unemployed youth in various handloom activities.

Training of tailoring, weaving, stitching, spinning and dyeing are among other skills, being taught in this handloom department.

At present, there are four training centre at different Block level in Leh district.

The training session for learner vary from six months to one year during which they also get stipend of Rs.500.

After the completion of the training the trainees also receive certificates and can also serve as teacher at village level centers to teach others.

The department also organises training competition and gives financial or machinery assistance to individual or group to set up business unit of their interest under the Border Area Development Programme (BADP) fund project. (ANI)
