Head Constable commits suicide in Delhi

New Delhi: A 48-year-old Delhi Police Head Constable committed suicide by shooting himself, police said on Friday.

Deceased Jitender was posted at the Police Training College (PTC) in west Delhi’s Jharoda Kalan and was on night duty when he allegedly shot himself early Friday with his service revolver.

“A gunshot was heard from the guard quarters. Some policemen on duty rushed in and found Jitender lying in a pool of blood. No suicide note was found,” a senior police officer said.

The body was sent for post-mortem to Rao Tula Ram Hospital and his family informed.

“We are trying to ascertain the reason behind his suicide. Prima facie, he was not happy from the last couple of days,” said the officer.

Jitender was a native of Haryana’s Jhajjar and had joined Delhi Police in 1991. His wife and children live in Haryana.
