Cloud burst in Hyderabad, Heavy Rain with thunderbolts

The heavy rain in the City on Monday evening shook the citizens with thunderbolts and black clouds. Till 4 pm, sun rays were as usual but later dark clouds engulfed the sky and started pouring in Old City first and spread to the entire city.

Due to the downpour, the people confined themselves in their homes afraid of thunderbolts and lightning. Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt across the city. At several places, power supply was off. Rain water flooded the low-lying areas. The rain hit Charminar, Yakutpura, Dabeerpura, Uppuguda, Santhosh Nagar, Chandrayangutta, Puranapool, Ziaguda, Mehdipatnam, Banjara Hills, Somajiguda, Yousufguda, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Lakdikapul, Nampally, Koti, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Hayatnagar, Uppal, Tarnaka, Secunderabad, ECIL and other places. several colonies in Kukatpally, Bowenpally, Malkajgiri, ECIL, Mehdipatnam, Nallakunta, Santosh Nagar, Puranapul and Dilsukhnagar reported water-logging within minutes of the thunder-showers. Low lying areas were inundated as rain water started gushing from nalas.

Several citizens returning from festival holidays by road were stranded at MGBS and LB Nagar. Cabs and autorickshaws jacked up prices with cab booking apps displaying surge pricing. Several passengers at MGBS bus terminal were stranded for several hours due to the incessant rain. (NSS)
