Heavy security in J-K as complete ‘shutdown’ observed on Republic Day

Srinaga: On the occasion of India’s 67th Republic Day, a complete shutdown was observed today in Jammu and Kashmir as the valley was swathed in a blanket of heavy security.

All the shops and business establishments remained closed. Traffic was off the roads as the security was tightened all over the valley.

The police and para-military force personnel have been jointly conducting search and frisking operations in Srinagar and Kashmir valley to ensure fool-proof security arrangements.

The shut down call was given by Hardline Hurriyat Conference Chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani as he had asked the people of the valley to observe 26th January as a ‘black day’ and observe a complete shutdown.

Meanwhile, in his Republic Day message Governor N N Vohra enjoined upon all citizens to negate all divisive and communal forces and promote societal harmony and brotherhood. He also called for settlement of disputes and disagreements through dialogue and discussion. (ANI)
