Hectic poll campaigning ends

Hyderabad: Election campaign that horrified with much noise and echo elsewhere in the State of Telangana for the December 7 polls, today came to a grinding halt with Election Commission deadline falls on December 5 at 5 pm.
Warned of serious action if violated the poll code, the EC has imposed a blanket ban on the poll campaign by political parties, leaders, activists, the media, including newspapers, electronic, hoardings, cinemas, door-to-door, hoardings and posters or any other meeting to induce or lure people.

With this, the main political parties including the ruling TRS, Opposition Congress, TD, TJS, CPI, CPM, MIM and others wound up their campaign paving way for smooth and fair poll. While caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao closed his campaign in Gajwel by 4.30 pm, Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Uttam Kumar Reddy, TD Chief N Chandrababu Naidu, TJS Chief Kodandaram, CPI Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, Ch Venkat Reddy, balladeer Gaddar and others also followed suit. The Kutami addressed a joint press conference at a star hotel in Hyderabad and wound up well in advance by 4.58 pm on Wednesday.

However, the arrest of Telangana Congress Working President Revanth Reddy ahead of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s election rally in Kodangal constituency cast its shadow over Congress party’s campaigning. Leaders of Congress party, which is heading four-party People’s Front to take on ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), condemned Revanth’s midnight arrest and highlighted the incident to intensify their attack on what they call the aautocratic rule’ of KCR.

TRS President KCR continued his whirlwind tour, addressing public meetings in five constituencies. His son K.T. Rama Rao conducted road shows in Khammam district while nephew Harish Rao addressed a few meetings. For Congress party, senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad conducted a road show in Gajwel, the constituency of KCR. Accompanied by actress Nagma, he addressed meetings in other constituencies in Siddipet district. Congress star campaigners veteran actress Vijayashanti, Khushboo and former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin also participated in the campaign on Tuesday.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted road shows in support of People’s Front candidates. For BJP, central minister Smriti Irani, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan participated in the campaign on Tuesday.
