Holi revelry turned tragic, youth dies

Hyderabad: An engineering student lost his life in a tragic incident during the festival of colors, Holi on Sunday at Singareni Colony in Saidabad.

According to Times of India, J Chander Naik, 24, was a third year student of Gurunanak College. On Sunday he was working at a construction site. An egg was hurled and color was thrown on him by a known girl to him. The very same day at afternoon, Chander came across with a minor girl while he was going to grocery shop and ran after the girl to put colour on her but the girl ran inside the house of Lakshmi.

Rajender, sub-inspector said, “Chander was waiting outside the thatched bathroom where the girl hid. Very close the thatched portion, Lakshmi was boiling water on wood.” When the girl went inside the bathroom she found a bottle with colored water took and threw it on Chander according to the police.

The liquid in the bottle was not colored water but was turpentine. Drenched in turpentine, Chander caught fire because of the burning wood nearby.

“Chander ran while he was getting burnt. He took a dip in a drum full of water and was shifted to Osmania General Hospital, but succumbed to injuries,” Rajender said.

Chander hails from Nagarkurnool district from a poor family. In his dying declaration he said the incident was an accident.
