Hours after killing police constable, Imam of Hanifa mosque attacked

SRINAGAR: Imam of Hanfia Mosque in Pulwama’s Parigam village in Jammu and Kashmir was shot at by a group of militants in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to IndiaTv news reports, the 45-year-old imam, identified as Mohd Ashraf Thoker received multiple bullet injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical state for immediate treatment.

The news of attack on maulana Ashraf come just hours after the body of a Jammu and Kashmir Police constable Javid Ahmed Dar was found at Pariwan Kulgam.

Dar, a resident of Nehama in Kakapora area of Pulwama, on Thursday (July 5) was reportedly kidnapped by three Hizbul Mujahideen from near a medical store.

Earlier in June, Kashmir valley witnessed horrors with the shooting of veteran journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Rising Kashmir Shujaat Bukhari and the murder of Indian Army jawan Aurangzeb, who was abducted and his bullet-riddled body was found at Gussu village in Pulwama district.

In a chilling video of 24-year-old riffleman that had sent shock waves in the Valley, the militants were also seen grilling Aurangzeb moments before murder.

A day after the killing, the militants released the 1.15 minute video on June 15 in which they are heard questioning the Aurangzeb about the encounters. “Yes I am rifleman and my duty was on the post,” Aurangzeb was seen replying to the attacker’s question, who was not visible in the video.
