Houthis fire missiles targeting Makkah, Jeddah in the holy month of Ramadan

Jeddah: Even as the holy city of Makkah is teeming with millions of pilgrims and visitors in the holy month of Ramadan, the Iranian-backed militias, Houthis fired missiles targeting Makkah and Jeddah which were intercepted by Saudi air defense forces early Monday morning. According to the eyewitnesses, two Houthi ballistic missiles — one over Taif heading toward Makkah and the other over Jeddah were intercepted.

The ballistic missiles were destroyed 60 km from Makkah by the Kingdom’s air defense forces. As reported by the Saudi gazette, the missile debris fell in the Jallel valley that extends to Makkah.

The Iranian-backed militias had tried to target the holy city earlier also in July 2017.

Khidr Al-Nifei, a worshiper said, “Pilgrims and worshipers are performing their rituals and prayers in peace and comfort.”

The Yemeni government strongly condemned the Houthi attempt to target Makkah and said that the attack on the holy site is “a full-fledged terrorist act”.
