HP govt betraying youths on unemployment allowance: Anurag

Shimla: BJP MP Anurag Thakur today accused the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh of “betraying” the youths of the state on the issue of unemployment allowance.

He claimed that of the 9 lakh youths registered for unemployment allowance, only1.79 per cent got it.

“The Congress government had promised to give unemployment allowance to youth, but it played with the sentiments of job-seeking youths and deprived them of the unemployment allowance of Rs 1,000 per month,” the Hamirpur MP said in a statement here.

He said the Congress government was always reluctant to grant the allowance, but under pressure from its own ministers and state party chief, it gave it to some youths, just before the assembly elections next month.

“For four years, the government was in denial mode and did not fulfill the poll promise, and decided to give allowance at the fag end of the term which benefitedonly 16,149 youths, which is 1.79 per cent of the total unemployed youths,” Thakur said.
