New Delhi: The hunger strike of Abdus Saboor’s mother and wife has entered into the 4th day. Political leader and social worker Sharmistha Mukherjee, Swaraj India Yogendra Yadav, Councilor Mohammed Iqbal, MLA Nitin Tyagi, Qasim Rasool Ilyas were among those who met the family to express solidarity. They demanded ex-gratia to the affected family.
Meanwhile, Chairman Delhi Waqf Board Amanatullah Khan wrote a letter to the family and assured that the demand will be met within a month. However, his family didn’t agree to this and continued the dharna.
Advocate Shahid Ali will soon file a public interest petition in High Court against the attitude of Delhi government. Sharmistha Mukherjee and councillor Mohammed Iqbal expressed anger over the government saying that Delhi government could spend 562 Cr for publicity but it can’t give his right to the martyr.
Party MLA Amanatullah Khan requested the wife of Abdus Saboor to end the strike. He said the file has reached him and he has talked to the chief minister who assured that the compensation would be given to the martyr’s family within a month.
The 49-year-old Delhi Police head constable Abdus Saboor was crushed to death by a speeding truck in North Delhi’s Timarpur area in 2016. The AAP government had announced to give an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore to the kin of the personnel dying during duty. Other families of similar incidents got the ex-gratia right at their doorstep by the government staff but the family of Abdus Saboor is running from pillar to post to get the ex-gratia. Vexed due to the apathy of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal the family is forced to sit on the hunger strike.
