Husband tries to electrocute his wife for giving birth to a baby girl

Krishna: A software engineer from Krishna District has tried to electrocute his wife for giving birth to a baby girl.

Going into the details of the story, Prashanti from Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh was married to Rajaratnam. She said that she was physically and mentally abused by her husband and her in-laws for giving birth to a baby girl. She also told that they harassed her to bring additional dowry.

In 2016, she gave birth to a son.

According to the news reported in ibtimes, on January 28, she gave birth to a baby girl following which her husband, on Friday, had abused her and tied her with a wire and tried to electrocute her. She then resisted and her husband abused her and left home.

Parents of Prashanti said that “There are several injury marks on her face, neck and hands. Since the birth of the baby girl, Rajaratnam has been harassing her physically and mentally, demanding money.”

The Police had arrested the accused persons and booked cases against them under section 498 A (domestic violence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The accused is a software engineer who should most probably have modern and progressive views, but the present case of electrocuting his wife for giving birth to a girl child reflects the medieval mindset prevailing among the educated youth.
