Hyderabad: The family members of an 11-year-old alleged that the boy was administered fungus-infected saline at Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital and Research Centre (DDHRC) in Vidyanagar. He was admitted to the hospital for seizures. Vamshi Krishna’s family alleged that his condition became worse after he was administered the saline.
Similar incident had occurred seven months ago, in which a seven-year-old Prabhalika from Jangaon district, had died after she was administered saline from a bottle which had insects in it at Gandhi hospital. Five persons had allegedly lost their sight at the Sarojini Devi Hospital earlier this year due to contaminated saline.
A complaint has been registered at Nallakunta police against the hospital’s resident medical officer Umapathi Ramprasad and other doctors.
As reported by DC, Krishna, a Class VII student from Ramnagar, was admitted to the hospital at about 10 pm on Wednesday. Doctors began administering saline and a few minutes later, Mr. Srinivas, the boy’s uncle, noticed something strange in the saline bottle and alerted the staff, but no one responded.
Police seized the saline bottle containing fungus which will be sent to lab. After the incident the boy was shifted to another hospital for treatment on Friday morning.
