Hyderabad: 3 YO’s head gets crushed under the wheels of School bus

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident a mother lost her 3-year-old son after his head got crushed under the wheels of his school bus in Hayathnagar’s Koheda village, on Friday.

According to initial reports, the boy identified as Rishitej Bandaru, a UKG class student of Samkreethi Grammar School was returning home from school and the incident occurred after he got off from the bus, TOI reported.

“The child got down from the bus and was walking towards his house, located in a narrow lane, when he suddenly slipped and fell on the road. The bus started moving at the same time and his head came under the vehicle’s rear tyre. He suffered serious injury on his head and died on the spot,” said Hayathnagar inspector, Satish.

As the tragic incident killed the boy on the spot, the driver and the helper of the bus are reported to have fled from the scene and are still absconding.

“We have registered a case against the driver under section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. If, after investigation, the school too is found to be at fault, we will book them as well,” said sub-inspector of Hayathnagar, Raman Goud.

The death of the minor child has started protest with locals demanding justice and actions against the culprits.

According to reports, this is the fifth case in Hyderabad, where a child died after being crushed by a school bus.

“Of late, there has been a rise in such accidents. We urge the concerned authorities to take action against the schools for failing to take care of its students. Even the bus drivers should be punished and the vehicles seized,” says Achyuta Rao, Balala Hakkula Sangham, a child rights organization president.

He also added, “In most cases, either buses have no helper or the helpers are not sufficiently trained to handle children. The transport department and the education department should work together to train bus drivers and helpers so that they can be more cautious while dealing with students.”
