Hyderabad: 724 drunken drivers caught in 15 days, 79 sent to jail

Hyderabad: The City Traffic Police are continuing drive against drunken drivers to ensure road safety. Up to January 15, the cops caught 724 drivers, who were driving vehicles in drunken condition. They were charge sheeted and produced in the III & IV Metropolitan Magistrate Courts, Nampally.

After perusing the records, the MM Courts awarded imprisonment to 79 offenders and permanently cancelled/suspended driving licenses of 56. The Courts imposed fine amounts of Rs 15, 46,600 on traffic violators. All the violators were sentenced to imprisonment and sent to Chanchalguda Jail.

The police said the convicts may face difficulties in getting government jobs, passport and visa clearance. The violators, who committed the offence, were also counselled at TTI, Goshamahal and Begumpet. The drive against the drunken driving and other violations will continue for the safety of the commuters on the roads, the police added.
