Hyderabad: After Metro Rail, city to get “electric buses” this month

Hyderabad: TSRTC has decided to launch air-conditioned electric buses this month. It has already started the process of registration. In the first phase, 40 electric buses would be launched in the city. Electra Green Company Limited has been given the responsibility of supplying these buses. This company has already handed over five electric buses. It will provide 35 more buses very soon. Although, commercial operations have not yet been started, it is proposed to ply these buses to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamsabad from various places.

It may be mentioned that these buses have been manufactured within the country itself. Govt. of India has provided a subsidy of Re. 1 crore for each bus with an intention to eradicate pollution. The number of these buses will increase gradually.

After charging electrically, the bus will cover a distance of 250 km. Each bus can accommodate 40 passengers. Special provisions have been made for senior citizens. RTC has decided to charge Rs. 36 per km from each passenger. The driver will be entrusted with the responsibility of collecting money from the passengers.

It may be mentioned that Metro Rail was launched in Hyderabad recently. There are also plans to extend this service to Old City.
