Hyderabad: Driver falls asleep behind wheel, hits police vehicle

Hyderabad: An auto jumped over the road divider and collided with a patrol car of the Cyberabad police at Shankarpally on the city outskirts on Sunday morning due to which the driver sustained serious injuries.

According to the report published in the DC, the wounded man was immediately shifted to the hospital for medical attention by the Police constables who was inside the patrol car after he called an ambulance.

The autorickshaw driver identified as Shekar by the Shankarpally inspector N. Lingaiah. The driver was on his way to Shankarpally after delivering vegetables in the city market. The accident occurred on the Hyderabad-Shankarpally road. The inspector said Shekar fell asleep on the wheel and lost control of the vehicle.

The inspector stated that “he fell asleep before reaching the crossroads near IBS College and his vehicle jumped the median and collided with the patrol car.”

A case was booked against Shekar under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and an investigation was started.
