Hyderabad HC: Running a brothel cannot be compared to goonda activities

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad HC shows anger on Rachakonda police on Wednesday for invoking PD Act against four women, caught running brothels at Yadadri.

A division bench comprising of Justice Raghvendra S. Chauhan and Justice M. Satyanarayana Murthy said the activities would fall under the law and order issue. Petitioners’ counsel told the court that the police have issued orders under the PD Act without giving scope for the accused women to seek bail.

The bench refuses to consider the submissions of the government pleader and said, it was not proper to issue the orders under the PD Act against the women who were running prostitution centres.

The bench observed that no woman would want to enter prostitution, and they resorted to it only if they found it difficult to earn a livelihood.

The judges directed counsel for the government to produce the findings of the courts on the conditions to invoke the PD Act and the Acts that were enacted to control prostitution by Thursday.
