Hyderabad: Metro Rail in Old City soon, notices issued to property owners

Hyderabad: Metro Rail service will soon be made available to the residents of the Old City of Hyderabad. In this connection, officials of GHMC have already issued notices to property owners whose houses and shops are likely to be acquired for providing the service.

It was reported that two property owners made an attempt to approach the court of law but the court did not entertain their petitions since GHMC issued notices under the Right to Acquisition of Property for Public Services Act. This act empowers the government to takeover any private property in public interest.

It may be mentioned that construction of metro railway line in Old City is the last phase of the project. However, officials of metro rail project have already started construction to connect Mahatma Gandhi Bus station to Falaknuma via Darulshifa.

Officials of GHMC also informed that positive reaction has been observed in connection with surrendering the properties presently occupied by Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority, GHMC etc., which are under the Department of Municipal Administration.

Attempts are being made to resolve the matter at the level of Principal Secretaries. The officials of Metro Rail Project also informed that after shifting the office of QQDA from Darulshifa, metro rail station will be constructed. The proposals have already been sent to Dept. of Municipal Administration. It is expected that orders will be issued for shifting of the office of QQDA within a week to enable metro rail project to acquire the land.
