Hyderabad: One held for robbing an Afghani

Hyderabad: On Monday, South Zone Task-force sleuths with the help of Hussainialam police arrested a man for stealing foreign currency worth Rs 1 lakh from an Afghan national, Syed Mirwais Rahimi.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of police, Mr S. Chaitanya Kumar said, Rahimi came to Hyderabad on 29th December for eye operation of his 6-year-old boy Faiaz at LV Prasad Eye Institute.

On 4th January, he visited Mecca Masjid for Friday prayer and was carrying the money with him. The accused noticed that Rahimi had cash and stole it when the victim was walking past the crowd.

The man was identified as Mirza Rahamth Baig through CCTV footage and was held in Old City when he was trying to exchange the currency.

Baig, who already has a criminal record confessed to have committed the crime. He was produced before the court.
