Hyderabad: Police busts minor Muslim girls’ marriage racket, arrests 17 including 8 sheikhs

Hyderabad: Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mahender Reddy said that a major scam of minor Muslim girls’ marriages was busted by South Zone police. The police arrested the agents and the owners of the lodges. He informed that 5 Omani citizens, two citizens of Qatar, Qazi Fareed Ahmed Khan of Mumbai who was involved in making fake documents, Dy. Qazi Munawar Ali and local Qazi Habeeb Ali were arrested. Beside this, a search warrant has been issued to arrest Qazi Ali Abdullah who is absconding.

He further told that 5 local agents including Ahmed Sikander Khan, his wife Gousia Begum and Asif Mohammed who were arranging the marriages of minor poor Muslim girls were also arrested. They were tempting the parents of the girls by saying that their future will be bright. They used to arrange meetings of the girls with the sheikhs. In case a girl is selected, they used to arrange her marriage.

Police raided various guest houses in Old City and arrested the owners of Plasma, Galib residency, MJ Annas and One City Developers guesthouses. Cases have been registered against 38 agents and 4 owners of lodges and Qazis.

He further told that 10 proposals have been sent to the Dept. of Minorities Welfare which includes getting NOC by foreigners for marriage. He threatened the agents, Qazis and others that stern action would be taken against them if they indulge in such marriages. He applauded the efforts of DCP of South Zone, Mr. V. Satyanarayana and ACP of Falaknuma, Mr. Mohammed Tajuddin Ahmed for busting this racket.
