Hyderabad is second safest metropolitan in the country- says NCRB data

Hyderabad: Hyderabad has been listed as second safest metro according to the data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which has for the first time published data on crime rates among 19 metropolitan cities.

Hyderabad ranked 18th on the list, with 236.1 crimes for every one lakh of population in 2016. While Delhi topped the list, recording 1,263.9 crimes per lakh of population.

Whereas, Kolkata recorded only 176.9 crimes for every one lakh, quotes The News Minute.

Where Delhi recorded 38.8 % of crimes under Indian Penal Code, Hyderabad contributed only 3.3% of the total. Moreover, the crimes decreased since 2014; there were 21,893 crimes in 2014; 18,957 in 2015; 18,295 in 2016. While the same pattern was observed in Telangana.

However, crimes against women such as rape and ‘cruelty by husband or his relatives’ have risen in Hyderabad.

According to NCRB data, 2,419 crimes against women were recorded in Hyderabad, of which 1,311 cases were of cruelty by husbands or relatives. This was the second highest number of crimes listed under this category. Delhi stood first with 3,645 cases of cruelty.
