Hyderabad: Seven month pregnant woman jumps off van to escape rape

Hyderabad: A disgraceful incident has been reported from Telangana where 35-year-old pregnant women jumped off a moving car to escape molestation reported Police on Monday.

The incident occurred on Hyderabad-Nagpur National Highway 44 in Toopran’s Ravelli village late at night on Saturday where the victim Ude Kalavathi jumped off to avoid molestation by driver and cleaner of the vehicle.

According to the Police, the victim a cloth seller was returning on Saturday night from Kompalli along with her seven-year-old daughter. She boarded the van after she missed RTC bus. The van’s driver asked her to pay the fare at the Toopran toll plaza but after traveling a kilometer the van’s driver and the cleaner attempted to rape her.

The victim reportedly jumped off the moving van leaving her daughter inside. The driver then dropped the victim’s daughter and fled the crime scene.

The local villager’s who reached the spot reported the incident to the Police and informed the dead victim’s husband Regonda and relatives at the Potharajpalli village nearby. The woman’s relatives have lodged the complaint with the police on Sunday afternoon.

Toopran circle inspector Lingeshwar Rao told the Hindustan Times that, “The daughter was not in a position to tell exactly what had happened inside the vehicle. Going by the closed circuit footage images, she first threw her bag of clothes out before jumping from the vehicle. The driver appeared to have applied the break and then moved again.”

“Unless we apprehend the driver and the cleaner, we cannot tell what had happened in the vehicle,” he added.

Sirisha reportedly told her father that her mother was “fighting” with the driver and cleaner in the vehicle before jumping off.

“Based on the complaint by her relatives, we booked a case of suspicious death. If it is proved that she was molested during the investigation, we will add other sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) as well,” the inspector said.
