Hyderabad: Water supply in Hyderabad since years have been restricted to alternate days while new developments in the 24×7 water supply proposal will soon a become a reality in the next years.
Hyderabad Metropolitan WaterSupply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director M Dana Kishore said though water is available in the state, there is no infrastructure to the supply water on a daily basis, TOI reported.
He said in order to achieve the dream of supplying water 24×7 to the city, the State Government has come up with constructing two major reservoirs at city outskirts Keshavapuram and Malkapuram.
which would store 20 tmc ft of water which can be used during the water crisis or any problem is encountered with Godavari or Krishna water supply schemes.
He said the city has a water supply capacity of 602 gallons per day (mgd) per the board is only utilizing 448 mgd since it lacks in water storage. Now after the reservoirs have been constructed a ring main pipeline network adjacent to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) would be constructed to connect the Godavari and the Krishna water schemes.
This would ensure the city gets water round the clock.
He also said this proposal would also supply water to another 183 villages and seven other seven other municipalities within ORR around the city by year-end. This news proposed twin reservoirs will store enough water to meet the needs of the city for about eight months even in case of failure of monsoon, he added.
About 1,000km of Nizam-era pipeline network would be replaced at the cost of 1,900 crore which would also cover a new network.
The new ring main water pipeline abutting ORR would be executed at a cost of 3,000 crore and shall be ready by 2020 he said.
