Hyderabad: TS Waqf Board to set up women’s health centres

Hyderabad: In order to provide employment opportunities for Muslim youth, seminars will be conducted at Hajj House and skill development centres will be set up at Waqf lands. Besides, Telangana State Waqf Board (TSWB) has decided to set up Healthcare centres for women across the state.

The need for the health centres was felt since women in rural area face gender-based inequalities, exclusions, discrimination and violence when it comes to accessing healthcare. TOI has quoted Shahnawaz Qasim, chief executive officer, TSWB as saying, “A lot of women die during pregnancy and childbirth. There are several such incidents in Old City even today due to lack of awareness. These deaths can be prevented if women have access to quality maternal health care before, during and after childbirth. These health care centres to be constructed on untouched Waqf lands will fill that gap.”

Waqf Board has also requested the central government to accord permission to establish skill development centre at Hajj House building under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana scheme. The TSWB wants to utilise the Waqf lands to provide health care, train the minority youth and generate employment opportunities so as to support economically deprived sections.
