“I’m not forcefully converted, want to live with husband”, says Hadiya

Kochi: Surrounded by heavy security, Hadiya (former Akhila) left Kottayam to Delhi on Saturday for her hearing in Supreme Court on Monday.

The 25-year-old told reporters at Cochin airport that she did not accept Islam under any pressure and she wants to live with her husband, Sheffin Jahan.

“I have not been forcefully converted. I want to live with my husband Sheffin Jahan,” Hadiya told media as quoted by NDTV.

Hadiya’s father, Ashokan KM, had filed a petition in the court saying she was forcefully converted. Based on Ashokan’s plea, Kerala High court had annulled Hadiya’s marriage.

Hadiya is currently living with her parents.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court had said, Hadiya’s version will act as a ‘prime’, whose hearing will be held at the apex court on November 27.

Hadiya’s 26-year-old husband, Sheffin said in a police complaint that, “Attempts are being made to reconvert Hadiya to Hinduism ahead of her being produced in SC on Monday. On Thursday, she was counselled by a religious teacher for over three hours. These attempts are being made in collusion with RSS activists for a ghar wapsi.”
