Hyderabad: India is like bouquet where different variety of flowers have been set together by nature to present a rainbow like beautiful picture, said Mr. M V Krishna Rao, former Commissioner of Hyderabad City Police said on Friday, November 3.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 10-day long Maulana Azad Day celebrations at Maulana Azad National Urdu University Model School in Vattepally, near Falaknuma, he said that there is unity in diversity in the country which should be preserved and promoted.
Hindus, Muslims and people of other faiths have played key roles in developing the culture of the country which is a sterling example of a robust plural society, he said.
The former Commissioner of Hyderabad City Police said that he was impressed by the performances of the students. “What I have witnessed goes on to prove that the under privileged students are as rich in talents as in any other section of the society,” he said.
Mr. Rao said that he was particularly impressed by a mime item which demonstrated how badly the society has been affected by the overuse of mobile phones.
Dr. Mohammad Asalm Parvaiz, Vice Chancellor of MANUU, said he was happy that 60 per cent of the over 800 students in the school were girls. “You are the ones who would raise an educated and productive society,” he told the girl students and asked them to excel in studies as well as in domestic chores. He was happy that of the six students who received prizes in excellence in education five were girls.
Dr Kafeel Ahmad, Principal of the Model School, welcomed the guests while Mr. Anees Azmi, Chief Consultant at Centre for Urdu Culture Studies at MANUU, thanked the audience.
MANUU has been running the Model School with Urdu as medium of instruction for the last over a decade.
The Azad Day celebrations would come to an end at MANUU campus on November 12.
