Take loans, become bankrupt and then leave the country, has become an ultimate Mantra for the rich businessmen to get away with millions of taxpayers money. Vijaya Mallya, Nirav Modi and the latest one Jatin Mehta, all had allegedly fled the country, while ‘chowkidars’ of India kept on watching.
The name of Winsome Group promoter Jatin Mehta has been recently raised by the Congress party, connecting it with a scam of more than ₹6500 crores. Mehta, a Gujarat-based diamond merchant and owner of Winsome Diamonds, is also an alleged defaulter to a consortium of banks.
Common threads between Nirav Modi and Jatin Mehta:
Both, Modi and Mehta belong to Palanpur of Gujarat. Belonging to some of the wealthiest families, they have diamond businesses. While Modi’s brother (Neeshal) is married to the niece (Isheta) of Reliance’s Mukesh Ambani. On the other hand, Mehta’s son (Suraj) is married to Krupa, Gautam Adani’s niece.
Mehta, who is currently a citizen of St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean Islands had left the country in 2016 after resigning from his firm, quoted The Logical Indian.
