New Delhi: India is the most dangerous country for women accounting to sexual abuse and harassment stated Thomson Reuters Foundation Survey.

The world’s fast-growing economy is ranked worse than the war-torn countries like Afghanistan and Syria when it comes to the safety and security of women, News Nation reported.

While Afghanistan and Syria, United States were ranked second and third respectively India stands on top position for abuse against women reporting high numbers of sexual violence, harassment and rape.

Ever since 2011 India stood at the fourth position, this year the results speak louder than words. India is ranked first in the same survey.

Several brutal rape cases, sexual abuse, harassment against women is widely being reported in India now, though the brutal rape and murder case of a student in December 2012 triggered widespread protests across India forcing the government to amend rape laws and stricken laws for women.

The United States, however, remains the only western country in the top 10 where respondents felt that women were not safe and were under the high risk of being abused sexually.

Now India is also ranked the most dangerous country for women in terms of human trafficking along with customary practices such as forced marriage and female infanticide to name few.
