India rejects UN report on Kashmir; describes it as ‘fallacious & motivated’

New Delhi: Describing the UN report on Kashmir as “fallacious, tendentious and motivated”, India said it is a selective compilation of largely unverified information. The foreign minister said that the report violates India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

While condemning the human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, the UN body has laid out recommendations for both countries. It asked India to “respect the self-determination of the people of Kashmir”. In the report, India was asked to stop using pellet guns for crowd control. Describing it as the excessive use of force, an investigation into “all civilian killings since July 2016” was also called for.

The 49-page report is the first of its kind on Kashmir.
