Mumbai: New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan is all set to replace injured Australian player Jason Behrendorff in the Mumbai Indians squad for the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), beginning April 4.
Confirming the news, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that Behrendorff is suffering from a back problem and, therefore, he has been ruled out of the upcoming IPL.
“The IPL Technical Committee has approved a replacement for Jason Behrendorff – left-arm fast bowler from Australia – in the Mumbai Indians squad. Behrendorff is suffering from a back problem and has been ruled out of the VIVO IPL 2018. In accordance with the Player Regulations, the Mumbai Indians were allowed to choose a replacement from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP),” the BCCI said.
As a result, McClenaghan, who played for Mumbai Indians in the last three editions of the tournament, has been roped in at his base price of Rs 1 crore.
“The Mumbai Indians subsequently picked New Zealand’s Mitchell McClenaghan at his base price of INR 1 Cr,” the BCCI said.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on two-time winners Chennai Super Kings in the opening game of the tournament.
