“Its been 2 yrs now, where is my son Najeeb” mother demands answers

New Delhi: Najeeb Ahmad does that name ring any bell in your head? Yes, he is the missing the student of Jawaharlal Nehru University who suddenly went missing two years ago on October 2016 and neither the Police nor the CBI could trace him.

Najeeb’s mother Fatima Nafees on Friday had staged a protest outside the CBI headquarters at CGO complex demanding speedy inquiry into Najeeb’s sudden disappearance, HT report.

Nafees was not alone in the protest but was accompanied by hundreds of students from JNU, Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University.

“It has been almost two years since my son went missing from the university campus. The CBI has done nothing to find him. In fact, it is insisting on filing a closure report. I will not let them do that. I will take to the streets and launch an andolan against it,” Nafees said, adding that even the best agency is India has failed to trace her son.

Najeeb Ahmad a 27-year-old and a MSc first-year student at JNU, suddenly went missing from his hostel on October 16, 2016, just a night before he had allegedly gotten into an argument with some members of RSS backed Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad(ABVP).

“No action has been taken against those who had assaulted my son a night before he went missing. In fact, they say that there is no proof that my son was assaulted,” Nafees said.

Demanding justice for her son and amid slogans such as “bring back Najeeb” and “we are Najeeb” the mother waited up for 2 hours in front of the office to get a response fron the CBI officials, but to her shock, she says, “they refused to meet me because they have no answers to my questions.”

After the day long protest, she stands up as she wound up the protest around 5.30 pm to head back home where her husband is unwell.

“I have to catch a train back home. My husband is really unwell,” Nafees said.

After the Delhi Police failed to crack Najeeb’s case, the Delhi high court had handed over the case to CBI in May last year but there has been no developments in the case.

One of the JNU protestors and student Rama Naga said: “The CBI has done nothing concrete. They have not even questioned the ABVP members who assaulted Najeeb a night before he went missing. The CBI’s apathy is highly condemnable.”
