‘It’s Eid like situation on the day when we get food’: Pathetic story of a family in UP

Ambedkarnagar: A family in Sikandarpur village in Akbarpur block is living in extreme poverty and destitute. Their stove doesn’t burn for days. They are awaiting government aid. Starvation has become their routine; the day when they get food is like a festival for them.

The head of the family is disabled while his wife’s eyesight is weak. Children remained uneducated due to extreme poverty. This is the story of the family of Taufeeq resident of Sikandarpur Village in Akbarpur Block in Ambedkar Nagar District of Uttar Pradesh State.

Taufeeq suffered from paralyses attack 4 years ago, as a result earnings from labour stopped. His wife’s eyesight is weak. Munni Devi who earlier used to run loom cannot do so due to her weak eyesight. She resorted to begging. The couple has 3 small children. They possess a ration card but is not registered. Sometimes neighbours help them.

Mohammed Imtiyaz one of their neighbours told that the family is passing through hard times, no scheme of the government reaches the door so the destitute family. The family lives in a house with teen shed. The stove burns occasionally. They have applied everywhere for government aid but to no avail.

When Akbarpur SDM Vivek Mishra was informed about their situation he expressed concern and assured that the family will be given connection under Ujjwal scheme and pension will be given under disabled certificate.
