Jammu and Kashmir governor says my mandate is to win hearts through dialogue

Satya Pal Malik, 72, Jammu and Kashmir’s first career politician in five decades to hold the governor’s post says his mandate is clear “Win hearts through dialogue”. He said he has accepted his challenging responsibility with grit and determination.

In a phone interview, he spoke on various contentious issues confronting Kashmir, which has been under Governor’s Rule since June after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled out of the coalition government with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He said he is confident of increased participation in the elections that are going to empower them (the people). We are going to tell them the elections are not for Delhi but for them. Once people understand that elections will only empower them, as they will get both power and funds, I am sure they will participate in large numbers.
