Jason Reitman all set to direct new ‘Ghostbusters’ film

Washington: Sony Pictures has enlisted Jason Reitman as director for the new Ghostbusters film.

Reitman is the son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. Jason Reitman will helm the new film that he has been working on in secret.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan. Kenan is the director of the animated film Monster House. The film is set to go into production this summer and is expected to release in 2020.

The whole project, which has been under a veil of secrecy, has been operating under the code name “Rust City.”

Sony is calling the new film “the next chapter in the original story,” and says it continues the narrative of the 1980s classic.

However, whether the original members will return or not remains to be seen. Sources told the magazine that Reitman is on the lookout to cast four teens in the film, two boys and two girls.

Reitman has been twice nominated for a best director Oscar (2007’s Juno and 2009’s Up in the Air) and directed two films last year – Tully, a drama starring Charlize Theron, and The Frontrunner, a political drama on former Sen. Gary Hart and starred Hugh Jackman.
