KODERMA (Jharkhand): A man from a minority community was assaulted by a mob over suspicion of serving ‘banned bovine meat’ to guests at his son’s wedding reception.
According to media reports, the incident happened in Nawadih village under Domchanch police station area of Koderma district in Jharkhand on Tuesday.
Jumman Miyan, a tailor in his 50s had on Monday night hosted a reception for his son. On Tuesday, some villagers alleged that he served bovine meat, which is banned in the state and informed the police.
In a meanwhile, large crowd from Nawadih and surrounding villages gathered around Miyan’s house and assaulted Jumman Miyan leaving him with injuries. The mob also vandalised his house and damaged several vehicles and a worship place.

The police reached the spot arrested seven persons in this connection. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC (Code of Criminal Procedure) was imposed in the area to maintain law and order.
The injured Jumman Miyan was admitted in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi for treatment.
The meat being served was send for forensic test and is being investigated, said Koderma SP Shivani Tewary. “Meanwhile, we are identifying people with the help of video and photographic evidence. Further investigations are on.”
It may be noted that last year, Alimuddin Ansari in Ramgarh town of Jharkhand was lynched by cow vigilantes on suspicion that he was carrying beef in his car.
A Ramgarh fast track court (FTC) last month awarded life imprisonment to 11 cow vigilantes in connection with the case.
