JK govt orders probe after Jhelum embankment caves in

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a probe after a large chunk of an embankment on river Jhelum in Srinagar caved in triggering panic among city residents, a government official said today.

Minister for Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Javaid Mustafa Mir, has asked Kashmir’s Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmed Khan to probe the reasons behind the collapse of the part of the embankment at Lasjan yesterday, the official spokesman said.

Mir assured if anyone is found guilty or negligent in the inquiry report, the person would be brought to book.

He asked the secretary, irrigation and flood control, to ensure the work to restore the embankment is immediately started.
