As the hearing in Supreme Court on Article 35-A is about to begin, a protest has begun in the valley by trade bodies against “interference” in the Article that gives special rights to the people of J&K. Several trade bodies took to the streets in Srinagar seeking dismissal of the petition against 35-A in the apex court.

Our protest is against interference, everything in Kashmir will come to a standstill” if Article 35-A is tinkered with, industrialist Dr Mubeen Shah said. “We are ready to protect the Article 35-A with our blood and people are already ready for it,” he added.

On the launching day of a week-long protest programme, the Valley traders marched from Residency road here to Srinagar’s Press enclave amid sloganeering in favour of Article 35-A. A petition to hear the annulling of the article 35-A is due to be heard on August 6 in the Supreme Court.
