Joyride on Hyderabad highway turns fatal as car rams into tipper, 2 killed and 6 injured

Hyderabad: A joyride turned deadly when a car having nine people on Saturday rammed into a tipper from behind on Hyderabad-Srisailam Highway, killing two people and grievously injuring six. The group of nine friends were visiting a dam in Srisailam when the mishap occurred at Maisigandi.

“The team was travelling in an Innova to Srisailam. The driver of the tipper in front of them applied a sudden brake leading their vehicle to hit the vehicle,” said the Amangal police inspector. Mohammad Feroz and Syed Sameer, who were sitting in the front, died on the spot, while the rest sustained serious injuries, the official added.

The injured were Mohammad Moin, 22; Mohd Wahaaz, 21, a private employee; Syed Abdul Kareem, 30, a driver; Mohd Khasif, 23; Asgar Ali, 24; Riyaz Iqbal, 29; and Mohd Afsar, 25. They have been admitted to Osmania General Hospital. With the help of locals, the police pulled the dead bodies out of the smashed car. “We tried to break open the door and pull out the bodies. The guy driving was crushed between the steering wheel and the seat,” said police.

“The car went right into the truck. The reason could be the wet road after rain or poor lighting,” said an eyewitness. The tipper driver fled the scene. A complaint of negligent driving has been filed against him, said police.
