Julius Maada Bio elected as Sierra Leone ‘s President

Freetown [Sierra Leone]: Sierra Leone election commission on Thursday declared the main opposition candidate Julius Maada Bio as the nation’s new President.

As per media reports, the National Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone announced that Maada Bio of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) won the elections with 51.8 percent votes defeating ruling All People’s Congress candidate Samura Kamara,

The elections were held on March 31 as the term of the outgoing President Ernest Bai Koroma was coming to an end and he could not seek a re-election due to term limits imposed upon him.

Julius Maada Bio along with former foreign affairs minister Kamara briefly ruled Sierra Leone as the military head in 1996.

Both of them stood in the Presidential elections in opposition to each other in a bid to replace the outgoing President.

Bio will take oath as the new President of Sierra Leone on Thursday’s night. (ANI)
