Justice Mishra breaks down during meeting with CJI; says ‘you have attacked my reputation’

Justice Arun Mishra of the Supreme Court broke down during a meeting with CJI on Monday, alleging that the four senior most judges have tarnished his image.

India today has quoted Justice Mishra as saying “The only thing I have earned in my life is reputation and you have tried to attack it… How do you propose to give it back to me? You should have killed me with a bullet rather than attacking my reputation.”

During an informal meeting between the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and the judges of the Supreme Court on 15 January, Justice Arun Mishra said that though his name was not mentioned by the four judges, inferences have been drawn from the cases referred to by the four judges including that of late CBI special court Judge BH Loya.

At this point Chief Justice and Justice J Chelameswar tried to placate him saying that they were addressing a dissonance in the functioning of the judiciary and had nothing personal against him.

It must be noted that in a controversial press conference four SC justices criticised the distribution of cases to judges and raised concerns about judicial appointments.
