Kanpur: IIT student alleges rape on pretext of marriage by Facebook friend

Kanpur: An IIT student from Kanpur filed an FIR against an IAF official who raped on Wednesday after befriending her on Facebook six months back.

The victim alleges that the accused Sitanshu a resident of Bihar’s Badurahi works with Indian Air Force started visiting her in her Girl’s Hostel after befriending her on Facebook six months ago.

The victim in her complaint stated that the incident took place on January 6 when the accused visited her at her hostel. She also claimed that the accused has sexually exploited her on the false pretext of marriage but later changed his mind.

According to the officials, the rank of the accused remains unknown since his base is not located in Kanpur. As per a report published in TOI the Police registered a case against Sitanshu under sections 376(rape), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354B (assault or use of criminal force on woman with intent to disrobe) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.

The victim has also alleged Sitanshu’s sister, brother-in-law and a friend in her complaint.

“An FIR has been lodged against four people in the alleged rape case wherein the survivor is a student of IIT-Kanpur. The man was a regular visitor to IIT-Kanpur and was a friend of the girl. We are investigating the matter,” Parshuraj, SSI of Kalyanpur police station said.

When media contacted the IIT-Kanpur’s Director, Professor Manindra Agarwal, he responded saying he was unaware of the incident since he was out of town.
