Karnataka: Two cops injured while preventing rowdy-sheeters from escaping

Kalaburagi (Karnataka): Two cops, including a lady inspector, were injured after they got indulged into a scuffle with two rowdy-sheeters in Kalaburagi’s Dabarabad village in Karnataka on Sunday.

The cops opened fire to prevent the accused from escaping, following which the exchange of fire took place between them in which both the cops and the accused were injured.

The police acted on a tip-off by a team led by Circle Police Inspector James Menenjes.

RG Nagar Police Sub-Inspector Akka Mahadevi opened fire after one of the accused attacked a police constable.

The rowdy-sheeters, named Chetan and Shivukumar, were accused in eight criminal cases, including an attempt to murder, dacoity and kidnapping cases.

Both the police personnel are shifted to a private hospital for treatment and the accused are admitted to the District Government Hospital.

A case has been registered against both the accused at rural police station.

Inspector General of Police, North Eastern Range Alok Kumar, after paying a visit to the injured cops at the hospital, said, “It’s the first time a lady cop did that. We’ll recommend her for Chief Minister’s medal and provide cash reward to the other cop.”

He also informed that the two rowdy-sheeters will be booked under Guna Act and it will be made sure that they don’t come out of the jail at least for a year. (ANI)
