Karti Chidambaram sent to a 5-day CBI custody till March 5

Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram has been sent to the CBI custody on Thursday evening till March 5, he was arrested on Wednesday from Chennai airport. The CBI had sought 14 days for interrogation. However, the Patiala House court allowed a 5-day custody.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested S Bhaskararaman, former finance minister’s Chartered Accountant, on February 16. After which he was sent to 14 days of judicial custody. Meanwhile, the CBI arrested Karti in the same connection.

As per the court’s direction, Karti can meet his lawyer for an hour in the morning and for another in the evening. He will also not be allowed for having home cooked food, moreover, medicines will be allowed as prescribed by his doctor, quoted India Today.

Karti has been accused in a case for allegedly taking bribes worth 3.5 crores from INX Media for providing it with funds from abroad, after getting it Foreign Investment Promotion Board’s (FIPB) clearance in 2007, when his father was the finance minister in the Congress-led UPA Government.
