Karti wanted to fly business after his arrest

New Delhi: Karti Chidambaram wanted to upgrade his economy seat to business after getting arrested on Wednesday from Chennai airport. The son of former finance minister P Chidambaram was being taken to Delhi from Chennai by the Central Bureau of Investigation for questioning.

According to a senior official of the investigating agency, Karti tried to convince Jet Airways to make him travel business. However, he was persuaded to travel economy as CBI rules only permit economy seats, quoted a report by India Today TV.

Karti has been arrested as INX Media promoters Peter and Indrani Mukerjea alleged paying a bribe of over Rs 3 crore bribe to him for gaining access to foreign funds. The then finance minister, P Chidambaram, was head of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board that grants approval to firms for these funds.

Karti will be produced before the Patiala High Court on Thursday. The court will also hear the bail plea of his chartered accountant, S Bhaskararaman, in connection with the INX Media money laundering case.
