Shamli [UP]: Muslim youths are being presented as criminals in UP. This was noticed by Karwan-e-Mohabbat which is camping at Shamli in Western UP for the past two days. They are also meeting the victims of 2013 communal riots.
Mr. Harsh Mander told that UP Govt. led by Mr. Yogi Adityanath has so far presented 30 Muslim youths as criminals and killed them in police encounters. Those who were not involved in any criminal activity are being labeled as terrorists and criminals and are being killed in encounters but media is reporting it as an effort of Yogi Govt. to eradicate crimes.
Two Muslim youths arrested from Shamli were killed in an encounter by police in Sugarcane fields. On the next day, the news published in the newspapers reported that these youths were making an attempt to escape from the clutches of the police and a youth was trying to snatch weapons from the police. The police, therefore, fired at him in self-defense which killed him. The marks of bullets found on the body do not support this statement of the police that they were shot when they were trying to escape since these marks were found on the ankles, knees and wrists of the youth. Another Muslim youth is under the police custody facing deplorable conditions.
Mr. Harsh Mender further told that such actions of Yogi Govt. against the particular religious minority have taken the shape of heinous criminal activities. He also told that with the communal riots of 2013 in Muzaffarnagar, a situation of hatred was created in the eastern UP. Now the same situation is being created in the western UP also.
