AGRA: A Muslim man named Akram Ali was thrashed mercilessly by a mob while he was on way to hospital.
On Friday evening of Republic Day, a non-local resident Akram was on his way to Aligarh as his wife was admitted in a hospital for delivery.
He was coming from of Lakhimpur Kheri when got stucked in a traffic jam in the violence-hit area of Nadraigate in Kasganj.
As he stepped down from his black Tata Safari to enquire about the reason behind the traffic jam, the mob surrounded him and thrashed him mercilessly.
His 18-year-old housemaid Arza who was accompanying him witnessed the assault and told Times Of India that the mob pulled his beard and also brutally beaten him.
“They beat him up mercilessly while I hid myself under the backseat. The rioters also carried sharp-edged weapons,” reported TOI.
The police rushed the seriously injured Akram to a local hospital but on Saturday was shifted to Aligarh’s JN Medical College where he was operated upon his right eye as it was badly “smashed”.
According to the doctors, he has lost sight in his right eye and his condition remains worrisome.
Communal violence started in Kasganj town of Uttar Pradesh after Hindutva groups holding saffron flags tried to disrupt the flag hoisting by residents of a predominantly Muslim locality on the eve of Republic Day.
After a firing by unknown persons, a youth identified as Chandan Gupta was killed and two other identified as Naushad and Prince were seriously injured.
Soon after the violence police on Friday imposed Section 144. However, fresh violence took place on Saturday in which several shops and vehicles were torched.
