Kasganj violence: fact-finding team reveals police spared Hindus, acted against Muslims

The report has made serious allegations of lapses on part of Yogi Government right from registering an FIR to conducting the probe.

Lucknow: A fact-finding team has made key revelations with regard to the communal clashes that broke out in Kasgunj Uttar Pradesh this year on Republic Day. The report has made serious allegations of lapses on part of Yogi Government right from registering an FIR to conducting the probe.

28 Muslims were accused of the crime. The fact-finding team has also accused the police of a cover-up. Journalist Ajit Sahi who was part of the fact-finding team says the police sided with the accused right from the time of filing of the FIRs. He revealed that instead of one FIR for one incident, the police chose to file two FIRs, one for violence against Hindus and the other for homicide against Muslims. While the former got bail, the latter remained behind bars for several months.

Both the Hindu rallyists and CCTV footage of the incident revealed that it was the Hindus who gatecrashed into the flag hoisting function. The GD entry number 43 missed the crucial fact mentioned in GD entry number 29 which clearly says that the Hindus at the rally belonged to the Hindu Vishwa Vahini, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s outfit.

While Anukalp Chauhan and two other accused got bail within minutes, Salim got bail months later by the Allahabad High court but remains incarcerated as non-bailable National Security Act was slapped against him.

The fact-finding team also pointed out that the police also silenced, SP, Kasganj, Sunil Kumar who had told journalists that this was a deliberate political conspiracy by disgruntled local politicians. He was transferred for his bold remarks.
